Soil From Vimy Ridge Arrives in Barrie Today
An urn filled with soil from the Battle of Vimy Ridge in 1917 arrives in Barrie today with an OPP escort. The soil was collected from the battleground in France where many Canadian soldiers fought and died (many had been trained at Base Borden a year earlier). The soil will be incorporated next into a memorial wall at Base Borden marking the 100th anniversary of the base.
