Cancer Society Worried About Cigarettes With Squeezable Menthol Filters

Might hook more young people

Canadian Cancer Society is worried about a new type of menthol cigarette introduced by Rothman’s Benson and Hedges. The filter contains a capsule of liquid menthol that a smoker can squeeze for an added burst of flavour while taking a puff. The Cancer Society thinks it might get more teens and young adults hooked on smoking. It has been pushing the federal and provincial-territorial governments to ban menthol and other flavour-enhanced tobacco products. Alberta and Nova Scotia already have; Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick are expected to next year. Rothmans maintains its products are fully compliant with federal and provincial tobacco regulations.
