After a dream of more than two years, 12 year old Barrie boy Zach Hofer finally left yesterday on his journey to help raise funds for the new Youth Mental Health initiatives coming to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre later this year.
Initially, Zach was hoping to raise $50,000 for the cause, but thanks to some early awareness and a number of events leading up to the run, the financial goal had pretty well been reached prior to Zach’s start of the close to 30 day marathon. The goal will obviously be revised now and who knows, he may be able to present a cheque of close to $100,000 by the time the run is complete.
Zach will cover 20 to 25 kms each day until arriving in Ottawa September 10th, where he hopes to meet the Prime Minister who is well aware of his journey.
Tune in to ROCK 95 for updates during Zach’s marathon. He plans a combination of running, biking and scootering the distance with some breaks built into the schedule for recovery time. To see the route to Ottawa Zach is taking, click here.
