You may think that smiley face you add to your work email may be communicating warmth and competence, but wait, researchers in Israel have found the emoticon may have the opposite effect. They conducted experiments with people in 29 countries and found the smiley face only marginally increases perceptions of warmth, and actually decreases perceptions of competence.
