UN Drops Wonder Woman as Ambassador
It was a controversial choice from the beginning
In October, the United Nations announced that Wonder Woman would be the honourary ambassador for the empowerment of women and girls. Less than two months later and they’ve already announced her ambassadorship will end on December 16th.
The initial decision sparked controversy online along with a petition that garnered almost 45, 000 signatures calling for the UN to reconsider. From the petition website:
“The message the United Nations is sending to the world with this appointment is extremely disappointing. The bottom line appears to be that the United Nations was unable to find a real life woman that would be able to champion the rights of ALL women on the issue of gender equality and the fight for their empowerment. The United Nations has decided that Wonder Woman is the role model that women and girls all round the world should look up to.”
There have been mixed reactions to the news on Twitter:
Honestly, I'm not that concerned about Wonder Woman losing her UN Ambassadorship… Because I'm kind of hoping they pick a real woman now.

When #WonderWoman is a world wide hit later in 2017, I cannot wait to hear everyone at the U.N kicking themselves in the ass. Bad move.
