Toronto Rail Expansion Will Aid Barrie GO Enhancements

Additional line is needed to increase service along Barrie corridor

The Ontario government has announced plans to extend the West Toronto Railpath, which runs alongside the Kitchener GO Line tracks, south to King Street in Toronto. While it will be a new option for Toronto commuters to travel from downtown to midtown, the expansion is also necessary to accommodate the additional track necessary to provide more frequent service along the Barrie GO corridor. All day service between Barrie and Toronto, and three new stations – in Innisfil, Newmarket and Vaughan – are part of a 10-year expansion plan on the Barrie Line.
