Average Canadian spends more on taxes than essentials

So, where does the money go? According to the Fraser Institute’s Canadian Consumer Tax Index more of it is going to taxes than to essentials like housing, food and clothing. Forty-three 43 per cent of the average Canadian’s income went to taxes last year while 37 per cent went to essentials. In 1961, more than half went to basics and less than a third to the taxman.
