School Zone Photo Radar In The Works

Province Wants To Introduce Legislation To Give Municipalities School Zone Safety Options

The province wants to introduce photo radar in school zones. As part of a push to make community safety and school zones more safe, the Ontario government today announced plans to introduce new legislation that would give municipalities new tools, including photo radar, along with red light cameras and new reduced speed limit areas. The province says 14 per cent of all people killed on Ontario roads in 2013 died in crashes where speed was a factor, while studies show lowering urban speed limits from 50 to 40km/h would reduce the the number of deaths there by half.
