OPSEU Raises Safety Concerns At Waypoint Centre

Three staffers injured this week

Safety concerns at Waypoint Centre in Penetanguishene. OPP are investigating after three employees were assaulted this week; hospital treated and released. Waypoint officials confirm a serious incident happened on Tuesday afternoon. Adding, this and any incident are always responded to immediately and taken very seriously with full support for staff provided and a comprehensive investigation is underway and mitigation strategies have already been implemented. Waypoint cannot comment on anything specific related to patients due to privacy legislation. The Ontario Public Service Employees Unions says it has spoken out many times about safety concerns at the facility, blaming current and former health ministers for not taking heed and doing something about it. “Waypoint is a dangerous facility for staff, and it’s a dangerous facility for clients,” Warren (Smokey) Thomas said. “I’ve told that to former Health Minister Deb Matthews, and I’ve told that to current Health Minister Eric Hoskins. They were warned, and they are responsible for what happened…”
