Old Sex Ed Curriculum To Be Taught in the Fall

PC Government Repealing 2015 Curriculum

Ontario’s newly minted Education Minister says students will be learning the old sex ed curriculum in the Fall. This comes as a follow-through on a Doug Ford campaign promise to repeal and replace the Liberal-authored lesson plan.

Lisa Thompson says her Ministry is working to not only inform school boards across the province of the decision, but also consulting with parents on how to form a new curriculum. The Simcoe County District School Board tells us it has not yet been contacted by the Ministry of Education to be informed of the decision.

The “new” sex ed curriculum was updated in 2015 by the Liberal goverment of the day, and was the first update since 1998. Back then, there was no social media, Google, or online bullying. The new curriculum had focused on online interactions as well, but ignited controversy with some more conservative Ontarians when the curriculum included same-sex marriage, gender identity, and masturbation.

Both NDP Leader Andrea Horwath and Green Party Leader Mike Schreiner have said this move is a mistake.
