UPDATE: Hardwood Ski and Bike Trails To Reopen Today

Hardwood Ski and Bike says it will reopen its trails this weekend after the Christmas day fire that burned through the main chalet. Management says it will be a ‘ski from your car’ experience with no chalet to check in and out of. The wax building will be converted into a warming hut and they’re hoping to have some food and beverage service available, as well as portable washrooms.

While the Office of the Fire Marshal has completed its investigation of the Christmas morning fire at Hardwood Ski and Bike, insurance investigators are just beginning theirs. In a Webinar, Hardwood’s Gareth Houben said he has no clear answers as to when the trails will reopen. What he does know is the main chalet suffered enough damage it will have to be taken back to the studs – at the very least – before repairs can be made. Temporary facilities – trailers or a dome – could be erected in the interim. Houben said it’s hoped the trails can be reopened sooner rather than later. Until then, Highlands Nordic and Georgian Nordic Ski have offered Hardwood members and season-pass holders free access to their facilities. Refunds for cancelled programs and special events will be available once management is able to access its systems, which is expected in the next few days. Click here to listen to the entire Webinar.

It’ll be next week at the earliest before Hardwood Ski and Bike reopens. A fire early Christmas morning in the main chalet has been deemed accidental. It appears to have been an electrical issue in a bathroom. The resort has an online info session planned for Friday at noon to update the situation and answer questions.
