UPDATE: City Staff To Mull Over Repurposing Surplus Parking Lots

Unused Lot Could Find New Use as Affordable Housing

They paved paradise, put up a parking lot, and now they’re wondering if it should be affordable housing. Barrie City Council voted Monday night to have staff look at all the downtown parking lots on the surplus property list, to see if any of them can be designated for affordable housing. There will be a focus on creating housing for seniors. Now council has given the nod, the city’s Business Development Department will pour over the issue and report back in the coming months. Barrie’s downtown surplus parking lots are as follows:

  • 60 Worsley Street
  • 55-67 McDonald / 61 Owen Street
  • 23 Collier Street
  • 76-78 Maple Avenue
  • 58 Maple Avenue
  • 26 Mary Street
