Barrie’s Jobless Rate Falls, As Do Provincial, Federal Rates

Local Unemployment Edging Back Down After Big Jump

Barrie’s jobless rate has slid back down after a significant bump last month. We saw the city’s unemployment rate fall two tenths to 8.5 per cent last month, after an almost full percentage point rise from July to August. The job market is looking even sunnier on the federal level, with Statistics Canada reporting Canada’s economy added 67,000 new jobs to the market last month, the most jobs since 2012. Provincially, Ontario also saw a few new jobs created last month, predominantly in the manufacturing sector.
