Barrie Colts Gear Up For New Season

A rebuilding year, but don't count them out of the playoffs

Training camp began last week, exhibition games are well underway, Barrie Colts management looking forward to another successful season. Co-owner Jim Payetta admits this is a ‘rebuilding’ year, but is also confident the team will make the playoffs next spring; that it will be an exciting group to watch. In addition, a laser light show has been added to Barrie Molson Centre to help keep the crowd engaged and a Barrie Colts App that is already getting a good workout by many. To find out more about the season at hand, we sat down with Payetta and Manager of Community and game Day Operations Melissa Bromley.

Payetta says it was a short, but busy, off-season for the Colts’ brass. While the players have been away from the arena, the assignments have been many for the management team…

And while the players may be away from the home arena, that doesn’t mean team officials are not keeping tabs on them…

Due to the nature of the Ontario Hockey League, there are certain challenges from year-to-year with players coming of age and moving on, some being drafted by NHL clubs and new, young players coming in…

The Colts have been close to a championship over the past few years. The puzzle pieces are clicking together during the regular season, says Payetta, but it’s easy for a few to go missing come playoff time…

Win or lose, Melissa Bromley says the Colts always enjoy tremendous fan support…

How easy is it for the young, new players to integrate with the team and the community?

We noticed a lot of nervous smiles on those young players we met at a playoff game after last year’s entry draft…

Something new this season is the Barrie Colts App…

The pre-season underway, excitement is building, and while Payetta admits it is a rebuilding year, he has no doubt it will be a fun team to watch and he fully expects the Colts will be in the playoffs…
